Addenbrooke’s Hospital – BU90 Rosie
CPS Building Services were appointed for the BU90 building project at the Rosie Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
The works consisted of the supply, installation testing and commissioning of new mechanical and electrical services within the facility to provide chilled water services to the department. Given that the facility is a 24/7 365 operation the works had to be carefully phased to ensure the hospital workings were not disrupted from both a patient perspective and also an engineering and building functionality point of view.
CPS Building Services undertook the full mechanical and electrical services package for this project with new power supplies being pulled in to serve the new plant all whilst working through an occupied and functioning hospital.
The entire installation is served by a dedicated BMS installation which ensure the best possible energy efficiency for the overall installation. The project is made further complicated by “known unknowns”. The drainage points for the project were unknown as existing data for the building is incomplete. Therefore CPS had to undertake detailed existing surveys out of hours and to suit the availability of the hospital. There is also the present risk of asbestos throughout the entire Addenbrooke’s estate which needs to be managed.
