The Emmanuel Laboratory
CPS was appointed for our 6th Project for Illumina this time at Chesterford Research Park a remote facility for the client. The Emmanual lab was a fit out of the mechanical and electrical services following SDC carrying out the CAT A build for Building 300. The project was designed by Ingleton Wood in Cambridge who was responsible for the entire design Including architectural packages within the facility.
The bespoke Labs consist of 3 rooms housing a network of fume cupboards served from a new AHU in the rooftop plantroom. A new twin extract fan arrangement is installed within the plantroom with the fume cupboards being serviced on a constant volume arrangement.
Given the original building was only a CAT A install a new dedicated site-wide BMS was installed, linked back to the main Illumina network over the new data installation.
New gases were installed from the site-wide existing system to serve the experiments and research being carried out within the facilities. The areas are also served by CAT5 water and drainage with reverse osmosis being installed locally from Veolia wall-hung units.
Electrical services within the facility consist of new CAT6 data & power serving both research benches and the new fume cupboard installations. There are also dedicated power supplies installed on the benching which serves generator-backed electrical services which need to continue to run in the event of a power failure on the site.
The labs are commissioned and the fume cupboards are validated prior to being set to work. All commissioning is managed by SDC Builders' in-house M&E project management team and the fume cupboards' face velocities are checked for approval in line with the Illumina standards.
