CPS Building Services completed the Cat B fit-out of laboratory and office space on the ground floor of B960 at Babraham Research Campus. Working on behalf of SDC, we collaborated closely with Insmed, the campus team, and BioMed to deliver the project within a live, operational environment.

The scope included installation of new fume cupboards with dedicated extract, a new AHU providing supplementary air and enhanced room air changes via TROX VAV controls, and laboratory gas systems for CO₂, Nitrogen, and Compressed Air, complete with gas detection. Cooling capacity was increased through a combination of new and relocated fan coil units, supported by upgraded chilled water pumps. Additional lab drainage, sinks, lighting, power, data, and BMS upgrades were also installed. A specialist cold room was delivered by our sister company Synecore.

CPS reconfigured existing services to support increased occupancy and new furniture layouts, along with forming new meeting spaces, a comms room, and breakout/kitchen areas.

Key challenges included maintaining live building services, limited ceiling space for new installations, and the need for extensive coordination. Careful planning and phased delivery ensured minimal disruption and full compliance with site-specific protocols.
